Everything you always wanted to know about Maks...
Uh, 'everything'?
Well, not everything (not yet, anyway)!
But you can always mail me and ask!Okay, let's get started:
Originally the letters 'M', 'A', 'K' and 'S' stood forWhen Auk and I separated in october 1999, the letter 'A' was vacant. So I decided to get me a boyfriend with the first name 'A-something'. Found one in 2000. His name is Anne. No, it's not 'her' name! He is a 'he' alright. I checked that. So why the name? Well, just think of the song 'A boy named Sue' by Johnny Cash....*grin*. Uh, just kidding. In the Netherlands it's kind of alright to name your son Anne. It's a tradition from some part of this country. At least that's what they told me. So if I ever have a son, I'm gonna name him... Nope, *grin* I wouldn't! Or would I?
- Malaika (my youngest daughter)
- Auk (the father of my children)
- Kirsten (yep, that's me)
- Shari (my oldest daughter)
Ah, enaugh about that. Let's go about this 'whois' in a more orderly manner, starting with me:
I am Kirsten Elvers, nickname Kiki,
born on 5th of december 1962 in Bremerhaven, Germany.
Because of my Dutch grandmother (from Rotterdam) I am ¼ Dutch (yeah, you're right, that makes me ¾ German). In 1981 (when I was 18 years old) my family and I moved to the village of Monster in the Netherlands.
During the years before that I lived in
In the Netherlands I attended the German High School in The Hague ('Deutsche Auslandschule Den Haag').
After graduation ('Abitur') in 1984 I moved to The Hague and started studying Psychology at the University of Leiden ('Rijksuniversiteit Leiden').
At the same time I fell in love with Auk, the Afro-Surinamese father-to-be of my 2 daughters.
In 1985 Auk and I moved to a small house in the Zeeheldenkwartier of The Hague. At the moment I still live in the same neighbourhood, together with my 2 daughters Shari-Yana (born in 1988) en Malaika (born in 1994). Living with us are
- and that's it, because over the years Auk and I had gradually fallen out of love. In october 1999 we decided to go our separate ways...
- 2 gerbils
- Chica, a former stray dog from Tenerife
If you'd like to know more about the current 'significant other' in my life (remember: Anne, the guy I found for the vacant letter 'A' in 'maks') you might want to have a look at this public loveletter.)
From october 1996 until october 1998 the kids and I lived in Suriname.
Actually we had intended to stay there for at least 10 years, but after only 2 years we had to move back to the Netherlands. (Couldn't make ends meet with an income of NF 300,- per month, while paying NF 250,- per month to rent a place to live in...).
According to Surinamese custom, I called out my name before getting on the plane back to Europe. The Surinamese people believe that one's soul will stay behind if not invited to board the plane. Hm, I guess that at least part of my soul decided not to come along, since I still get very homesick when thinking about that beautiful country in South-America and the friends I had to leave behind...Oh, perhaps you wonder why I'm telling you all this?
Actually because I'm looking for a new job.
For the past 2 years I have been working as a teacher at the Mondriaan School of Nursing in Leide - during the sick-leave of 2 collegues. Both of them have started working again, so there's no more work for me...Uh, I had to correct those sentences above. Starting on the 1st of august 2000 I have been working as a teacher at Mondriaan again. But, well, it never hurts to look around. So, if YOU should happen to know about any interesting jobs: send me an e-mail please?
Back to 'info about Kirsten': What do I do in my spare time (except sitting around as a couchpatato watching tv)? Prefarably, I spend my time:
I have to confess that since august 2000 I've spend quite a lot of my spare time working on a 'lover-project'. One day I might add a report on that project to my pages here - but don't hold your breath! ;-)
- dansing salsa
- playing conga, djembé and Afro-Surinamese drums
- taking pictures (of my kids, mostly)
- reading books (sci-fi and fantasy, mostly)
- surfing the i#
- e-mailing
- chatting with friends on icq (icq nick and number: Kiki, 50763976)
- constructing this 'cyberhome' (uh, well, from time to time)
Me and my pc:
When studying at the University of Leiden I had discovered the advantages of a 'pc as a typewriter', using word perfect (and I played pac-man from time to time). :-)
When staying in Suriname I worked with windows for the first time (mostly word) at the office of the VPSI. At home my pc helped me to avoid gigantic phonebills by allowing me to e-mail (pegasus) with friends in Germany and the Netherlands (which was great, even if I had to get up in the middle of the night for a dial-up to telesur).
Back in the Netherlands I bought a pc that could open a webpage in less than a couple of minutes :-), so I started surfing the web enthusiastically.
In 1999 my daughter Shari taught me how to chat with mirc. During my very first chat-sessions with mirc someone told me about icq, so I decided to d/l and install icq, resulting in some interesting conversations (about life and stuff) with icq-users from all over the world.
In 2000 I surfed across the Cursus HTML written by Michael Doel. According to Michael's instructions I built my very first homepage: moorhuhnpage.
Later on that year I bought a scanner to add pics to my next homepage. I also installed napster (just in time to d/l some music before almost everything was blocked) and I also got me a CDwriter.Meanwhile my kids developed a slight Sims-addiction...
To be continued...
